Festival report - Yorkshire's finest

Now that the festival is over and we've packed up the banners for another year, it seems a good time to look back on this year's 10th anniversary success.

And what a year it was! First, we were delighted to bring such big names as Irvine Welsh, Ben Miller, Alan Johnson and Joanne Harris to HLF2016 - audiences loved their events and we garnered additional publicity through showcasing such major performers.

Our pre-festival event with the explorer Levison Wood was a bigger success than we could have ever imagined - selling out the 1,200-seater Town Hall in Huddersfield and raising awareness for the events that followed during the festival proper.

Once again we worked with Kirklees Library Services to deliver five library events around National Libraries Day in February. We also partnered with Stafflex on a free famliy day with free films, storytelling and activities.

As always diversity was a key part of the festival, both in the performers booked and the audiences we attracted. We had subtitling by Stagetext at two of our events to make them more accessible to those who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing and we plan to offer this service at more events in 2017.

Yorkshire has a proud literary tradition and there are many festivals to look out for over the coming year - Ilkley, Bradford, Wakefield, Harrogate to name but a few.

We wish them every success and we look forward to revealing more of our plans for HLF2017 in due course.

Thank you for your support.
